Training Women on Men and Men on Women

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: What is the Islamic ruling on training male students on female patients and female students on male patients , given that the students have no role in treating the patients, but are only training to recognize the signs of illness and the method of treatment? It is also known that some departments and some professors do not require the male or female student to examine the private parts or the breast of the opposite sex, but instead substitute this with three-dimensional models that are somewhat similar to the natural body. Others say that medical colleges teach a humanitarian profession that transcends gender differences, and that looking at and touching the body and private parts of a patient does not arouse desire in the male and female students. Therefore, any doubt about them is not considered, and therefore they require every male and female student to perform examinations, even on the private parts of men and women, without distinction. Sometimes our students ask us about the ruling on what we are doing, and we have not found an answer to this question in previous fatwas. Please give us a detailed and sufficient answer, and may Allah reward you with reward and recompense.

A: Each gender trains on its own gender; male students train on male patients, and female students train on female patients, and the reverse is not permissible; in compliance with the pure Shari'ah which commands the protection of honor and the covering of private parts. In this matter, no attention should be paid to what is claimed about the medical profession being a humanitarian profession that transcends gender differences; this is from the deception of Satan upon the servants of Allah the Exalted, and it is very common in this time.
