The questioner : May Allah reward you with good. This questioner from al-Qasim says: I stoned the Aqabah pillar, but I think I stoned it from the side outside the basin, and the reason is that the basin was full of pebbles, and I did not notice that except during the stoning. What is obligatory upon me? And is anything required of me?

The Shaykh : When a person stons the pillars, either he is certain that the pebble fell into the basin, in which case, if he is certain that it fell into the basin, it is sufficient, even if it rolled and came out of the basin.
The second case: he is certain that it was not in the basin, in which case it is not sufficient for him.
The third case: he is convinced that it fell into the basin, in which case this is sufficient.
The fourth case: he is convinced that it did not fall into the basin, in which case it is not sufficient.
The fifth case: he hesitates and doubts whether it fell or not, without any inclination? In this case, it is not sufficient.
So it is not sufficient in three cases: if he is certain that it did not fall into the basin, or if he is convinced that it did not fall into the basin, or if he hesitates. In this case, he is considered not to have stoned, and upon him, according to what the scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) said, is a fidyah (ransom payment) to be slaughtered in Makkah and distributed to the poor.
Unless it was one or two pebbles, in which case I hope that nothing is required of him.
