The clothing of the deceased man's wife: white clothing

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa number ( 17976 )
Q1: In Algeria , when the husband dies, the wife wears white clothing, does not take a bath, and does not change her clothes until the night of Wednesday. Is this correct? And is it not permissible for her to go out except in cases of extreme necessity, and if she wants to go out, for example, to visit a sick person or attend a wedding, but she does not stay overnight?
A1: A woman whose husband has died must avoid adornment in her body and her clothing during the waiting period of four months and ten days. She wears ordinary clothes that are not for adornment, without being restricted to a specific color. She avoids perfume and kohl and does not wear jewelry. She must stay in the house where her husband died and where she was residing. There is no harm in her taking a bath or changing her clothes if she needs to do so at any time. There is no harm in her going out for her needs, or to the court, or to the hospital. There is no harm in her using perfume when she becomes pure from menstruation. As for going out to visit her relatives or others, or attending a wedding or the like, it is not permissible for her; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the woman whose husband had died:
Stay in your house until what is written reaches its term.امكثي في بيتك حتى يبلغ الكتاب أجله
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1204Sahih (Darussalam)
. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
