Killing stray dogs and wanting to pay blood money for them
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 19795 )
Q: I am sending you, with this letter, a copy of a letter from my late uncle, may Allah have mercy on him and grant him a spacious place in Paradise, and may He have mercy on us when we follow the path he took. I found it in one of the drawers of his private desk after his death. He had intended to send it to you, but divine decree and destiny prevented him from doing so. I hope you will respond to the same content and subject of his letter, which reads: I proceeded to kill a number of stray dogs by shooting them. After killing them, I saw them struggling to die. I felt pain and regret, and I intended to pay blood money for every dog I killed. It is known that there were three dogs, and I set the intention at one hundred riyals. I ask Allah, then you, to clarify the Shari'ah ruling on this.
A : There is no expiation required of the person mentioned for what he did, but he made a mistake if the dogs he killed were not harmful. May Allah forgive us and him. It is recommended for you to make du'a for him, seek forgiveness for him, and give charity on his behalf, for that will benefit him by the permission of Allah. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
