The Meaning of "Give Your Soul a Break, Once in a While"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The seventh question of Fatwa No. ( 4470 )
Q 7: What is the meaning of: "Give your soul a break, once in a while, for when souls are exhausted, they become blind"? Is it permissible for a Muslim to give his soul a break through music and Arabic or Indian songs? And what is the best way to give one's soul a break?
A 7: Giving the soul a break means not burdening it with works that are difficult for it or persisting in them in a way that leads to hardship, without neglecting what Allah has made obligatory upon him or doing what He has forbidden. Indeed, Allah the Exalted does not burden a person beyond his capacity, and He has not prescribed for His servants anything that brings them hardship. He said:
Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacityلاَ يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلا وُسْعَهَا
[Al-Baqarah 2:286]
, and He said:
and has not placed upon you in the religion any difficultyوَمَا جَعَلَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي الدِّينِ مِنْ حَرَجٍ
[Al-Hajj 22:78]
, and He said:
So fear Allah as much as you are ableفَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
[At-Taghabun 64:16]
. It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Take on only as much as you can doاكلفوا من العمل ما تطيقون
Sunan Ibn Majah 4240Sahih (Darussalam)
, and he said:
So when I command you to do anything, do it as much as it lies in your power and when I forbid you to do anything, then abandon it.إذا أمرتكم بأمر فأتوا منه ما استطعتم، وإذا نهيتكم عن شيء فاجتنبوه
Sahih Muslim 1337
