Kissing the hand and feet of the Shaykh of the Tariqah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q 11: Some of those who claim affiliation kiss the Shaykh's hand and feet
and press their foreheads against the Shaykh's hands and feet, and their posture becomes like that of prostration. Sometimes, when the Shaykh is standing, they fall upon his feet and kiss them in the manner of prostration. They are given permission for the pledge of allegiance and succession after him. The Shaykh says to these people that they have humiliated themselves before everyone by falling on his feet, and for this reason, the command was given to grant them the succession. It was known among them that the one who frequently kisses his hands and feet at the time of the pledge of allegiance is said to have light in his heart, even if he contradicts the commands of Allah the Exalted in his outward life.

A 11: What was mentioned regarding kissing the Shaykh's hands and feet, falling upon them to kiss them while he is standing, and pressing their foreheads against the Shaykh's hands is an exaggeration in honoring the created being. This was not known with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) nor with the Rightly Guided Caliphs. It may be a means to major shirk (associating partners with Allah), and indeed, prostration to other than Allah is itself a type of major shirk.
