The second and third questions of Fatwa No. ( 6042 )
Q 2, 3: It has been established with certainty for us that the Coca-Cola beverage manufactured in Belgium is mixed with a limited proportion of alcohol, and it is known that the proportion of the Coca-Cola substance is greater than the proportion of the alcohol. Is this beverage lawful or forbidden? In order to speed up the preparation of the dough, they mix a small amount of alcohol, at a rate of 8 milligrams per kilogram of dough, and they claim that the alcohol leaves the dough through evaporation due to the effect of heat when it is placed in the oven. Is it lawful or forbidden to eat the bread made from the aforementioned dough? And based on this, is it permissible to mix alcohol with some
foods and beverages on the basis that if it is placed on the fire and cooked, it rises by evaporation?
A 2, 3: It is not permissible to mix any beverage or food, whether dough or otherwise, with any intoxicating alcohol, whether in a large or small amount. As for what has been mixed with any intoxicating alcohol, if it reaches the degree of intoxication by drinking a large amount of it, then consuming a large or small amount of it is forbidden. If it does not reach the degree of intoxication by drinking a large amount of it, then consuming it is lawful, whether it is Coca-Cola, bread, or something else. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
