Q3: Is it permissible to sell salt on credit (borrowing)?
A3: It is not permissible to sell salt for salt except in equal amounts and hand-to-hand. As for selling salt for another ribawi commodity, such as wheat, barley, or dates, differing amounts are permissible, but separating before taking possession is not permissible; due to the hadith of 'Ubadah ibn al-Samit

الذهب بالذهب، والفضة بالفضة، والبر بالبر، والشعير بالشعير، والتمر بالتمر، والملح بالملح، مثلاً بمثل، سواءً بسواء، يدًا بيد، فإذا اختلفت هذه الأصناف فبيعوا كيف شئتم إذا كان يدًا بيد
