The Duration of Shortening the Prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 2896 )
Q3: If I travel a journey that allows for shortening the prayer from my city of residence to another city, and then I stay there for three days, having intended this stay before I began it, is it obligatory for me to fast if I am in the month of Ramadan, and should I shorten the prayer or complete it?
A3: If the situation is as you described, that you traveled a journey in which the prayer is shortened, and then you stayed for three days during that journey, it is prescribed for you to break your fast and to shorten the four-unit prayer for the duration of the three days that
you stayed; because staying for this duration does not break the ruling of travel, even if you intended it when you began it. This is based on the fact that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed in Makkah during the Farewell Pilgrimage for four days and continued to shorten the prayer. You may fast if you wish, but you must pray the obligatory prayer with the people as four units and not pray alone. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
