The Sale of Monkeys
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 18564 )
Q: I am informing you that I am one of the citizens, and I wish to enter the field of trading in pets such as cats and birds. Among these animals are chimpanzees, which are trained and domesticated for entertainment purposes or as an attraction for shop visitors, since they can be trained to perform some entertaining acts, thereby drawing the public to the shop and increasing other sales, or they are sold for entertainment in homes, knowing that they are expensive. And I have
been informed by some of my brothers, may Allah reward them with good, that trading in monkeys is forbidden; because they are a sign of punishment and anger, and because of the alteration of their fitrah (innate natural disposition) and their bad use, in addition to the fact that it is a waste of money. I hope that you will kindly guide us to what is correct, if Allah wills, and may Allah reward you with good.
A: It is not permissible to sell cats, monkeys, dogs, and other animals from among the fanged beasts; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade that and warned against it, and because of the waste of money involved in it, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade that.
