Seeking Knowledge

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 3816 )
Q: ... 5 - Is seeking the obligatory knowledge conditional upon the permission of the parents, or not? 6 - Is there any scholar remaining who prays with a chain of transmission going back to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and to the books of the Imams of Islam? Please direct us to their names and addresses so that we can seek hadith and knowledge from them. 7 - Is it permissible to take hadith and ijazah from an innovator Shaykh, who issues fatwas contrary to the truth? And finally, we ask of your eminence, if you are among those whose chains of transmission go back to Imam Malik , that you write for us an ijazah specifying your chain of transmission; so that we may narrate it from you. We offer you our abundant thanks and supplications.
A: Seeking the knowledge upon which the validity of your faith and the performance of obligatory duties depends does not depend on the permission of the parents, but as for the knowledge that is a collective obligation, one should seek the parents' permission for it. There are chains of transmission with some scholars that connect them to the collections of the Sunnah, but they have no value due to the length of the chain and the unknown status of many of the narrators in terms of their integrity and precision.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
