Converting a male to a female and vice versa

The first question of Fatwa No. ( 1542 ):
Q1: We see and read in some Arab newspapers about operations performed by some doctors in Europe that convert a male to a female and a female to a male. Is that correct? Is that not considered an interference in the affairs of the Creator, who is unique in creation and formation? What is the opinion of Islam regarding that?
Vol. 1 : No one among the created beings is able to change a male into a female or a female into a male, and that is not within their affairs or within the limits of their power, no matter how far they may have advanced in knowledge of matter and understanding of its properties. That belongs to Allah alone. He the Exalted said:[Ash-Shuraa 42:49-50] . Thus, He the Exalted informed at the beginning of the verse that He alone possesses that authority and is distinguished by it. And He concluded the verse by explaining the basis of that distinction, which is: the perfection of His knowledge and His power. However, the matter of the newborn may be ambiguous, so it is not known whether it is male or female. It may appear at first to be female while it is actually male, or vice versa. The ambiguity usually resolves itself, and the truth becomes clear at puberty. Doctors then perform a surgical operation that corresponds to the reality of the situation, whether it be male or female. Sometimes, no incision or surgery is needed. What doctors do in such cases is merely revealing the actual state of the newborn through the surgical operations they perform, not changing a male into a female or a female into a male. By this, it is known that they have not intervened in what is the affair of Allah; rather, they have revealed to people what is of the creation of Allah. And Allah knows best. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.

(49) To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth; He creates what he wills. He gives to whom He wills female [children], and He gives to whom He wills males. (50) Or He makes them [both] males and females, and He renders whom He wills barren. Indeed, He is Knowing and Competent.
