The eleventh question of Fatwa No. ( 189 ):
Q11: How do we deal with the man who insults the three Companions?
A11: The Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) are the best of this Ummah, and Allah has praised them in His Book. Allah the Exalted said:[At-Tawbah 9:100] , and He said: [Al-Fath 48:18] , among other verses in which Allah praised the Companions and promised them entry into Paradise, and Abu Bakr and 'Umar and 'Uthman and 'Ali are among these predecessors, and among those who pledged allegiance under the tree. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) pledged allegiance to himself
for 'Uthman , so it was a testimony for him and a trust in him, and it was stronger than the pledge of others to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) praised them in many hadiths, both in general and in detail, especially Abu Bakr and 'Umar and 'Uthman and 'Ali , and he gave them good tidings of Paradise along with a group of other Companions, and he warned against insulting them, saying:Sahih Muslim 2541a narrated by Muslim in his Sahih from the route of Abu Hurayrah and Abu Sa'id al-Khudri. So whoever insults the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) or abuses them, especially the three Abu Bakr and 'Umar and 'Uthman about whom the question was asked, has contradicted the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger and opposed them by his condemnation of them. He is deprived of the forgiveness that Allah promised to those who came after them, who sought forgiveness for them and called upon Allah not to place any resentment in their hearts toward the believers. And because of his condemnation of these three and their like, it is obligatory to advise him and alert him to their virtue, and to inform him of their ranks and their sincere precedence in Islam. If he repents, he is one of our brothers in religion. If he persists in insulting them, it is obligatory to take action against him, while observing the Shari'ah policy in forbidding evil to the extent possible. And whoever is unable to forbid evil with his tongue or his hand, does so with his heart, and this is the weakest of faith, as established in the authentic hadith. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
Q11: How do we deal with the man who insults the three Companions?
A11: The Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) are the best of this Ummah, and Allah has praised them in His Book. Allah the Exalted said:
And the first forerunners [in the faith] among the Muhajireen and the Ansar and those who followed them with good conduct - Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him, and He has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. That is the great attainment.
Certainly was Allah pleased with the believers when they pledged allegiance to you, [O Muhammad], under the tree, and He knew what was in their hearts, so He sent down tranquillity upon them and rewarded them with an imminent conquest
لَقَدْ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِذْ يُبَايِعُونَكَ تَحْتَ الشَّجَرَةِ فَعَلِمَ مَا فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ فَأَنْـزَلَ السَّكِينَةَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَأَثَابَهُمْ فَتْحًا قَرِيبًاfor 'Uthman , so it was a testimony for him and a trust in him, and it was stronger than the pledge of others to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) praised them in many hadiths, both in general and in detail, especially Abu Bakr and 'Umar and 'Uthman and 'Ali , and he gave them good tidings of Paradise along with a group of other Companions, and he warned against insulting them, saying:
None should revile my Companions. for if one amongst you were to spend as much gold as Uhud, it would not amount to as much as one mudd of one of them or half of it.
لا تسبوا أصحابي، فإن أحدكم لو أنفق مثل أحد ذهبًا ما أدرك مد أحدهم ولا نصيفه
