Questions four and five from Fatwa No. ( 2612 ):
Q4: Whatis the meaning of the statement by those who claim affiliation with Sufism: that so-and-so is the master of the time, and that he is one of the people of divine disposition? And what is the ruling on one who believes that? And is it permissible to pray behind him if that is known about him?
A4: The meaning of the statement that so-and-so is the master of the time... etc., is that there are those to whom the affairs of creation among humans are entrusted, and who possess the power to dispose of their affairs, relieving their distress, freeing them, and delivering them from the tribulation that surrounds them, and bringing to them whatever good they please in their view. Whoever believes this is one who associates others with Allah in lordship and the management of the affairs of creation. Prayer behind him is not valid, it is not permissible to appoint him to the affairs of the Muslims, nor to make him their imam in prayer; because of his explicit disbelief and clear shirk (associating partners with Allah), which is worse than the shirk of the first pre-Islamic age of ignorance. Allah the Exalted said:[Yunus 10:31-32]
and other verses.

Allah the Exalted said:
(31) Say, "Who provides for you from the heaven and the earth? Or who controls hearing and sight and who brings the living out of the dead and brings the dead out of the living and who arranges [every] matter?" They will say, "Allah," so say, "Then will you not fear Him?" (32) For that is Allah, your Lord, the Truth. And what can be beyond truth except error? So how are you averted?
