Continuing the discussion on the topic of guiding the common people to the truth and the correct path, and giving some examples of this, including the prayer of tarawih in twenty rak'ahs.

The questioner : The common person does not understand the term "consensus" or "not consensus." He understands that this hadith was adopted by the scholars of the Muslims, and the common person follows them. For example, the issue of twenty rak'ahs in tarawih: it is the predominant belief of all common people that this hadith is authentic.

The Shaykh : Which hadith?

The questioner : The hadith of the twenty.

The Shaykh : No one authenticates this hadith, and this is a purely imaginary example of yours, confirming that you are searching in imagination.

The questioner : They adopted it and acted upon it, even if the expression was wrong, of course!

The Shaykh : Allahu Akbar! Do we want to sit and correct expressions now, or do we want to come and remove problems? No one has authenticated the hadith of the twenty rak'ahs. The most rigid person in sectarianism, Ahmad ibn Hajar al-Haytami, not al-Hafiz al-Muhaddith al-Nawawi al-Haythami, Ahmad ibn Hajar al-Haytami says: "This hadith has a very weak chain of narration"!!

The questioner : You said: The chain of narration is authentic, but it is defective in my view. You are the one who said this in your book.

The Shaykh : My brother, you are talking about a hadith, not about the action of 'Umar. Tell me as well!

The questioner : Is it not called a hadith in the terminology?

The Shaykh : No, it is not called a hadith in the terminology.

The questioner : A mawquf hadith!

The Shaykh : Did you say a mawquf hadith?

The questioner : Absolutely, it is called a hadith!

The Shaykh : If "hadith" is said absolutely, what must you and I and Zayd and Bakr understand: a marfu' hadith or a mawquf hadith?

The questioner : We must look!

The Shaykh : Would we want to speak without knowledge, Professor?

The questioner : The mawquf hadith: You said its chain of narration is weak, and it is the predominant belief of the masses of Muslims today that this hadith is authentic and free from any doubt!

The Shaykh : I am just asking you: Do you have scholars of hadith?

The questioner : I am talking about the uneducated person who follows!

The Shaykh : And our duty with the uneducated person: do we leave him in the dark, or do we want to make him see? No, I want to explain to him that knowledge is a specialization. This scholar, the great al-Khatib, and so on, does not come to him; he asks him about an illness in his body because he is a scholar, a noble man, so he goes to a doctor, who may be a Jew or a Christian. These are matters of specialization. So if this man about whom you speak of "men of stature" and who you initially claimed consensus for is a person of knowledge in hadith, we have another discussion later. But where are the scholars of hadith whom you are claiming? We have to assume they are imaginary! The Shaykh : The great al-Khatib, up to the end, is not coming; rather, I am asking about an illness in his body, for he is a distinguished, virtuous scholar. He is with a doctor who may be Jewish or Christian. These are matters of specialization. If the man you are describing as a dignitary, and with whom you initially claimed consensus, is a scholar of hadith, we have another point to make later. But where are the scholars of hadith you are claiming? We need to assume they are fantasies!

The questioner : Ibn Hajar al-Haytami, al-Mundhiri, the scholars of the Ummah!

Another questioner : So you are telling the uneducated common person: Ibn Hajar and others and their likes said the hadith is weak!

The Shaykh : What do you want from the uneducated person, my brother? I do not understand what your madhhab is in reality.

The questioner : I cannot face the uneducated person.

The Shaykh : What do you want? I am telling you: What do you advise us to do with the uneducated person?

The questioner : The uneducated person remains in this state, and we look for students of knowledge who can influence people, and they verify with others.

The Shaykh : So if you have a knowledgeable man and an ignorant man, a knowledgeable man whose knowledge has deluded him, who will not listen to you and will not discuss with you, do we leave the common person in his ignorance?

The questioner : There is another scholar who listens.

The Shaykh : If the other scholar comes to us, we will bite him with our teeth. Subhan Allah!
