The Shaykh : And he said, and he also used to say This is an oath and a vow from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) by Allah, in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad.
Here, we must derive a legal ruling from this hadith and dozens, indeed hundreds, of similar ones. What is this ruling? Many people are scrupulous about it. A person is called upon to swear by Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in a certain case, and he appears to be sincere in what he says. So when he is called upon to swear, he says, "I swear, by Allah, so-and-so, if my money and my house and everything else were to go, I would not swear by Allah." Why, my brother? Why do you not swear by Allah? This is due to the ignorance that has befallen the Muslims, namely that swearing by Allah is not prescribed, whereas here the Messenger of Allah swore in hundreds of hadiths and so on, in many hadiths, and this is one of them. This means that swearing by Allah to affirm a matter is an act of worship and a recommended practice (sunnah), because the purpose of the speaker who swears is to emphasize this speech in the hearts of the listeners and to confirm it in their souls. Therefore, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) preceded such an oath. So no one should be scrupulous about swearing by Allah sincerely, because swearing by Allah sincerely is a remembrance of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and also an exaltation of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), which the ignorant among people overlook. And the opposite, the opposite, namely swearing by other than Allah (Mighty and Majestic), is an exaltation of other than Allah (Mighty and Majestic). For this reason, Islam came to prohibit swearing by other than Allah. Why? Because everyone who swears by something does not swear by it in the depths of his heart except that this thing by which he swears has a status, greatness, sanctity, and respect in his soul.
And there is no doubt that the greatest thing in the heart of the believer is Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). So just as the Prophet (peace be upon him) saysSunan Abi Dawud 3251Sahih (Al-Albani), I say, quoting without any blame, that there is no blame in swearing by Allah alone, for He has been made unique for that, so there is no blame in a person swearing by Allah (Mighty and Majestic) sincerely. And this is our role model, our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who swears by Allah in hundreds of hadiths, and this is one of them.
He (peace be upon him) says, affirming what he says. There is no doubt that the mutual love mentioned in this hadith, in which the Messenger (may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him) informs sincerely, is that this mutual love and affection, if its bond is broken, is because one of the two who love each other has committed a sin. This mutual love and affection is only affection for the sake of Allah and love for the sake of Allah. This is what has become rare, its existence has become rare in this time, just as holding fast to Islam in general has become rare. Love for the sake of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has passed; we have a chapter in this book in which the Messenger (peace be upon him) mentions types of hadiths, exhortations, and encouragements to love for the sake of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), some of which are divine hadiths, as in some of them, for example Sunan al-Bayhaqi 18:522.
So this love for the sake of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), if it is broken and disappears between two people, this is because one of them has committed a disobedience for which he deserved this punishment, a just punishment from Allah (Mighty and Majestic) upon him, so he no longer has a loving brother who advises him. We imagine that love for the sake of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is most like the poetic, pure love that can be, or is well, compared to the phoenix, which has a name but no reality.
By Myself in My Hand

By Myself in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, you will not enter Paradise until you believe.
والذي نفس محمد بيده لن تدخلوا الجنة حتى تؤمنواAnd there is no doubt that the greatest thing in the heart of the believer is Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). So just as the Prophet (peace be upon him) says
He who swears by anyone but Allah is polytheist.
من حلف بغير الله فقد أشركHe (peace be upon him) says, affirming what he says
By Myself in Whose Hand is my soul, two people will not love each other and then be separated except by a sin committed by one of them.
والذي نفس محمد بيده ما تواد اثنان فيفرق بينهما إلا بذنب يحدثه أحدهماMy love has become obligatory for those who love each other for My sake.
حقت محبتي للمتحابين فيّSo this love for the sake of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), if it is broken and disappears between two people, this is because one of them has committed a disobedience for which he deserved this punishment, a just punishment from Allah (Mighty and Majestic) upon him, so he no longer has a loving brother who advises him.
