Warning against taking religion from the reality of life today.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And I do not want, whether from a woman or a man, from a young man or a young woman, for them to take their religion from the reality of our life today, because the reality of our life today contains a great and very, very serious deviation from the Islam that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) brought down, which our Lord brought down upon the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). I think that those of you who have attended these lessons should now know this truth: that a large portion of the worship we practice today is not worship at all. Therefore, do not say, as some of you do, "This is how people deal with things." We are commanded to follow the master of people, not to follow people. And Allah (Mighty and Majestic) says:
And if you obey most of those upon the earth, they will mislead you from the way of Allah وَإِنْ تُطِعْ أَكْثَرَ مَنْ فِي الْأَرْضِ يُضِلُّوكَ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ
[Al-An'am 6:116]
. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) informed us that the Muslims will split into seventy-three sects, all of them in the Fire except one. They asked: "Who are they, O Messenger of Allah?" He said:
What I am upon and my Companions. هي ما أنا عليه وأصحابي

. So our duty today, as Muslims, is to know what the Companions of the Messenger (peace be upon him) were upon, not what people are upon today. Therefore, in any issue, we must know the position of the Companions regarding it. Did the Companions, when a person died, gather for condolences? The answer is no. Did the Companions, when a person died, gather to recite the Qur'an in the mosque or the house? The answer is no. Three days passed, I don't know what they did, it passed. Forty days passed, I don't know what they did, it passed. A year passed, was any of this with the Companions? The answer is no, no, no. So the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad
then he must stick to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly guided Khulafa' وعليكم بسنَّتي ، وسنة الخلفاء الراشدين المهديِّين من بعدي
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2676Sahih (Darussalam)
