The Condition of Those Who Deny the Sunnah and Claim to Follow the Noble Qur'an Alone

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And in conclusion, I say: The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) has informed us about people like these who are arrogant and haughty toward the Sunnah. He (peace be upon him) said:
Beware, I will not find one of you reclining on his couch saying: This is the Book of Allah, so whatever we find therein as lawful, we make lawful, and whatever we find therein as forbidden, we make forbidden. Beware, I have been given the Qur'an and something like it with it. Beware, the Messenger of Allah is like what Allah has forbidden

Beware, for the Messenger of Allah is like what Allah has forbidden: Why?
Because Allah (Mighty and Majestic) said in the beginning of Surat al-Najm:
(1) By the star when it descends, (2) Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, (3) Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. (4) It is not but a revelation revealed, والنجم إذا هوى * ما ضل صاحبكم وما غوى * وما ينطق عن الهوى * إن هو إلا وحي يوحى
[An-Najm 53:1-4]

Finally, I say: "A group of people came to the house of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to ask him some questions, but they did not find him, so they asked his wives (peace be upon him). They informed them of his worship (peace be upon him): his standing in prayer at night, his fasting during the day, and his intimacy with his women. They said that he does not stand in prayer all night, nor does he fast all the time, and he is not a monk with his women; rather, he comes to them and takes a bath after them, and so on. He said: When they heard this report, they said: We found it to be little, we found it to be few. But they returned to themselves to justify this little that they claimed in the worship of the Messenger (peace be upon him). They said: This is the Messenger of Allah, and Allah has forgiven him what has passed of his sin and what is to come. So they made a covenant among themselves. One of them said: As for me, I will fast all the time and not break my fast. The second said: As for me, I will stand in prayer all night and not sleep. The third said: I will not marry women. When the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) returned and they informed him of the news, he (peace be upon him) delivered a sermon to the Companions and said:
What is the matter with a group of people who say such and such and such? As for me, I am the most afraid of you of Allah and the most mindful of Allah. I stand in prayer at night and I sleep, I fast and I break my fast, and I marry women. So whoever turns away from my Sunnah is not from me ما بال أقوام يقولون كذا وكذا وكذا، أما إني أخشاكم لله وأتقاكم لله وأقوم الليل وأنام وأصوم وأفطر وأتزوج النساء، فمن رغِب عن سنَّتي فليس مني
