The ruling on a woman leading women in prayer.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Is it permissible for a woman to lead other women in prayer?

The Shaykh : A woman leading women in prayer is a recommended practice (sunnah) known from the women of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). It is authentically reported from the Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that she used to lead the women in prayer, standing in the middle of them. That is, the position of the imam—meaning the woman imam—differs from the position of the man. As you know, the man stands alone in a row, with the rows behind him. But the woman stands in a row with the women, such that she, the one on her right, and the one on her left form a single row. This is how the Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) used to lead the women in prayer, standing in the middle of them. For a certain reason, we always and forever say that we must follow the righteous predecessors (Salaf), especially those who were closest to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in understanding, connection, and knowledge of his conditions (peace and blessings be upon him), such as the Lady Aisha. This is especially the case regarding rulings related to women, for the women of the Prophet (peace be upon him) are more knowledgeable about the rulings concerning women than the male Companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him).
