From the lessons of "Al-Targhib wa al-Tarhib," an explanation of the hadith: The Shaykh’s remarks on two hadiths

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : ... We praise Him, seek His help, and seek His forgiveness, and we seek refuge in Allah from the evil of our own souls and from our bad deeds. Whoever Allah guides, no one can mislead, and whoever He misleads, no one can guide. And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger,
O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].
[Ali 'Imran 3:102]
,
O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.
[An-Nisa 4:1]
,
(70) O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice. (71) He will [then] amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment.
[Al-Ahzab 33:70-71]
. As for what follows:
Indeed, the best of speech is the speech of Allah, and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), and the worst of matters are their innovations, and every innovation is a religious innovation, and every religious innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Fire.
May Allah have mercy on the one who hears my words
, and in the other hadith:
May Allah beautify a man who hears a saying of mine
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2658Sahih (Darussalam)
. This is a supplication by the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) for those who are concerned with transmitting the hadith to his Ummah (the Muslim community) (peace and blessings be upon him), in fulfillment of another hadith of his, namely his saying (peace and blessings be upon him and his family):
Convey from me, even if it be an Ayah
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2669Sahih (Darussalam)
. The intended meaning of the word "ayah" in this hadith is not the customary Islamic meaning, which is the noble verse from the Qur'an, but rather the word "ayah" in the hadith is broader than that; that is, a statement. So the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) says:
Convey from me, even if it be an Ayah
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2669Sahih (Darussalam)
; that is, even if it is just a statement, whether that statement is from the Book of Allah or from the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). This transmission is a collective obligation (fard kifayah); if some people fulfill it, it is lifted from the rest. So what the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded regarding its transmission is what he supplicated for its doer (peace be upon him) in this hadith, asking that Allah have mercy on him, or in that hadith:
May Allah beautify a man who hears a saying of mine
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2658Sahih (Darussalam)
, he supplicated for him with freshness (nadhrah). Therefore, the commentators of the hadith, when they explain this specific phrase, say:
May Allah make radiant a man
They said: And Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) responded to the supplication of His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding the narrators of the hadith and those who transmit it to his Ummah. You will find on their faces the freshness (nadhrah) for which the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated for these individuals from the Ummah.
