The Shaykh’s mention of al-Ghazali’s stance toward him.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And now it seems to me that there is something else; and this is one of the calamities of souls that we were discussing today, at a time when this al-Ghazali...

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : ...had praised al-Albani and elevated his status and his knowledge in the science of takhrij, authentication, and weakening; in the introduction to the fourth edition, suddenly his soul was moved, and suddenly he printed a new edition with annotations on some of my hadiths. I do not know; I do not rule out at all that he hired one of these innovators and said to him: "Write what annotations are specifically yours, and those who mean to criticize al-Albani, whether with good or bad intentions; our Lord is their accountant." So he began writing annotations on al-Albani’s takhrij. So perhaps a day will come, if this one does not come, when "Fiqh al-Sirah" will be printed without al-Albani’s takhrij. And every day, as you know, the printing presses produce many, many books. So suppose that in one of the editions, al-Ghazali wrote an annotation, whether with his own pen or with a pen he commissioned, on this hadith that I authenticated.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Then another person comes and says: "No, this is weak." Like our friend here, this 'Abd al-Mannan. He might come to a hadith in "Sahih al-Bukhari" that I had authenticated; because first I found it in "Sahih al-Bukhari" and I did not find in it a defect that would undermine its authenticity. He comes and, in his ignorance, discovers a defect, and says: "No, this is weak, even if al-Bukhari narrated it." But if there is takhrij of "Fiqh al-Sirah" here, this remains part of the discussion.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh: All right.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Here you say: "And here comes the question I direct to the students of knowledge."

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : "So I say: I see that Russia and America are playing the role of Persia and Rome in the past. Did we realize what was happening between the two states during the Cold War, or do we say: these are matters that do not concern us? Then did we realize and analyze the stage of reconciliation after that, and the effect of this matter on the Muslims? Or do we say: disbelief is one religion."

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : I say: this is speech—may Allah bless you—such a question should not be directed to the students of knowledge...
