Making up the expiation

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: I am obligated to fast two consecutive months, meaning the fast for expiation. If I fast the month and the month is short by one day in the calculation, do I have to complete sixty days or not, or do I fast two months according to how they are calculated? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.

Answer: If you started fasting from the new moon, you fast two months by the lunar months, whether they are full or short. However, if you started fasting in the middle of the month, it is obligatory for you to fast sixty days; because you are fasting two months by number, sixty days. So there is a difference between fasting by the new moon and fasting by number.
If you started fasting by the new moon, you only have to fast what is between the two new moons, fasting two months by the lunar months, whether they are full or short.
However, if you started fasting in the middle of the month, then at that time you have started by number, so you fast thirty days, and thirty days, two consecutive months by number, totaling sixty days.
