Question: What is the meaning of the saying of Allah the Exalted: [Al-Talaq: 4] ?
Answer: Allah mentioned in this verse three types of women in the waiting period:
The first type: Those who have passed the age of menstruation,The post-menopausal woman: The woman who has reached the age of menopause by reaching fifty years of age; her waiting period is by months[At-Talaq 65:4] ; because every month is a substitute for a menstrual period; because the menstruating woman waits for three menstrual periods, as in the saying of Allah the Exalted in Surat al-Baqarah: [Al-Baqarah: 228] , meaning three menstrual periods.
So the one who does not menstruate, her waiting period is three months, in place of three menstrual periods.
The second: Those who have not menstruated, and they are the young girls who have not reached the age of menstruation; if they are divorced in this state, they are like the post-menopausal women; they wait for three months; because they have no menstruation.
And the third is: The pregnant divorced woman, and her waiting period is by the delivery of her pregnancy, even if it is after the divorce by a moment, or by the interval between two sucklings of a camel; so if she delivers her pregnancy after the divorce, she exits the waiting period by that, because of His saying, the Exalted: [Al-Talaq: 4] , and this is the most correct of the scholars' opinions.
And those who no longer expect menstruation among your women - if you doubt, then their period is three months, and [also for] those who have not menstruated. And for those who are pregnant, their term is until they give birth

then their period is three months
فَعِدَّتُهُنَّ ثَلَاثَةُ أَشْهُرٍDivorced women remain in waiting for three periods
وَالْمُطَلَّقَاتُ يَتَرَبَّصْنَ بِأَنْفُسِهِنَّ ثَلَاثَةَ قُرُوءٍSo the one who does not menstruate, her waiting period is three months, in place of three menstrual periods.
