The ruling on giving charity from someone's wealth without his permission
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
His Eminence the Shaykh regarding the athar: (That a man had wealth, and his wife would spend it without his knowledge, so on the Day of Resurrection this charity came and was made a shade for him) I do not know if this text is authentic, and if it is, what is the text of the hadith?
By Allah! I do not know that this is a hadith; But it is said: that there was a man -and this is a hadith of gatherings, not a Prophetic hadith- who was stingy and used to forbid his wife from giving charity, and that he saw in a dream that the Resurrection had occurred, and that the people were in distress, grief, and hardship, and that there was a shade over him.
He is shaded, and in it are three holes, he says: So three dates came and filled the holes, and the shade became complete, so he went to his family and told them the story,He said: What is this? I am surprised! So they informed him that they had been giving charity while he did not know, and that the last thing they gave in charity was three dates, which were the ones that filled the holes.
So I do not know.
In any case: (Every person will be in the shade of his charity on the Day of Resurrection) This is an authentic hadith, but according to the legal principles that we know -and knowledge is with Allah (Mighty and Majestic)- if someone gives charity on behalf of another without his permission, he has no reward, especially if he was forbidding it. How can he be rewarded for something he did not intend and did not permit?!! It is not possible.
But I say: Perhaps this question leads us to something else: it is not permissible for the family to give charity if their father forbids them from giving charity. It is not obligatory for them to give charity, even if there is a benefit for the father in the future. But as long as he has forbidden them, the wealth is his. And if they know that the man is not pleased with his statement or his situation, they should not give charity until he comes and gives permission.
