Raising the Voice in Dhikr After the Prayer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The honorable Shaykh (may Allah preserve him): The Sunnah has established the prescription of raising the voice in dhikr after the prayer. Is the intention the dhikr immediately following the completion of the prayer,For example: (O Allah, You are the Peace) and the like, or does it encompass all dhikr, including tasbih, tahlil, and takbir?
It encompasses all of it,It encompasses every prescribed dhikr after the prayer: istighfar,And saying: (O Allah, You are the Peace) and tasbih, and tahlil. And he authored— I think it was Shaykh Sulayman ibn Sahman (may Allah have mercy on him)—A treatise, and he said: who distinguished between tahlil and tasbih, thereby innovating, and that there is no difference between this and that. This is the correct view. However, if there is a person praying beside you who has missed part of the prayer, and you fear that raising your voice will disturb him, do not raise your voice. This is because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to the Companions while they were praying and reciting aloud, disturbing one another, so he forbade them from raising a man’s voice to the point of disturbing his brother.
As for when there is no disturbance, the prescribed practice is to raise the voice.
The questioner: Will there be no disturbance if they raise their voices? The Shaykh: If none of them have missed any part of the prayer and they are all remembering Allah, there will be no disturbance at all. Just as they recite the Qur'an before the prayer, everyone raises his voice, and no disturbance occurs.
The questioner: And when the imam raises his voice? The Shaykh: We say: If he raises his voice and they hear it, they should raise their voices like him. The cause of disturbance is that some people dislike this in their hearts. You know that when the heart is preoccupied, it becomes disturbed. But if they are at peace with this and their souls have accepted it fully, there will be no disturbance whatsoever.
The questioner: But the Sunnah is to recite it loudly! The Shaykh: The Sunnah is to recite it loudly, but if he is an imam, he should make it known to the ma'mum before that,And he says: O brothers! The Sunnah is to recite it loudly.
