That it be within the time prescribed by the Shari'ah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
ً
The time prescribed by the Shari'ah is one day and one night for a resident, and three days and their nights for a traveler. This period begins from the first time one wipes after a state of ritual impurity. So if, for example, he puts them on for the Fajr prayer, performs wudu' for the Zuhr prayer, and wipes over them, the period begins from Zuhr,Meaning: from the time he wiped, until the same time comes on the following day if he is a resident, or on the third day if he is a traveler. So it is three days and their nights for the traveler, and one day and one night for the resident.
The wisdom behind this is clear; the traveler has a greater need to cover his feet than the resident.
These are the conditions for wiping over the socks, or over the leather socks. As for the other conditions mentioned by some jurists, there is no evidence for them; rather, they are teachings that the jurists derived, which are either accepted or not accepted. But these are the conditions that give a person peace of mind, and that it is necessary for them to be present for the permissibility of wiping over the leather socks or the socks.
