The ruling on using perfumes that contain alcohol
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
There is a group that forbids some perfumes and fragrances on the grounds that they contain some alcohol, and that this khamr (intoxicants) has been classified by some scholars as najasah (ritual impurity). Is this correct?
First: We must know the proportion of alcohol; it may be small, such as 5% or 10%. This is what is harmful; because this does not have an effect. If the proportion is large, such as 50% or more, we look into it. As for the aspect that it is impure, it is not impure. It does not make clothes, bodies, or carpets impure if it falls on them. It is pure; because there is no evidence for the impurity of khamr (intoxicants). The original substance that foams and intoxicates has no evidence for its impurity. Rather, the evidence is that it is pure, and that if it touches clothes, bodies, or carpets, it is not obligatory to wash it.
Regarding its use -Meaning: Using these things that have a high proportion of alcohol - if it is drinking, there is no doubt in its prohibition; because it will intoxicate,And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (What intoxicates in large quantity, its small quantity is haram (forbidden)) And if it is not drinking, such as anointing with it or perfuming with it, then wara' (scrupulousness) is to avoid it, without doubt,But we do not say: that it is haram (forbidden);Because Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Ma'idah: 90] Allah the Exalted explained the cause in the command to avoid it by saying: [Al-Ma'idah: 91] And this does not happen unless a person drinks it. But avoiding it is better, and praise be to Allah, there are many others besides this.
It remains to be said: If a person needs to disinfect wounds, for example, is it permissible or not?We say: Yes, it is permissible, and that is because we do not assert the prohibition with certainty. And if we do not assert the prohibition with certainty, the need permits what is doubtful.

O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone alters [to other than Allah], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful.
