From the etiquettes of shaking hands

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Some people, when you greet them while they are sitting, make an excuse by saying: May Allah honor your status, or something like that? The Shaykh: May Allah honor your status, and what does this mean? The questioner: When you greet me and I am sitting, O Shaykh! The Shaykh: Do you mean you passed by a person who was sitting and you greeted him?The questioner: You shook his hand while you were standing and he was sitting? The Shaykh: A person should stand up when someone greets him and extends his hand to him, so as not to break his companion's heart, unless standing up is difficult for him,For example: such as when there are many people greeting him and he is sitting, and it is difficult for him to stand up every time a person comes, then there is no harm in extending his hand while sitting.

As for the issue: May Allah honor you, there is no need for it, so he should not say it,Then here is an issue, which is: It has become common among many people today that when the one entering enters, he starts by shaking hands with the first person next to him at the door, then moves on to the people,And this is a mistake from two aspects: The first aspect: that it is not from the way of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) when entering a gathering to shake hands with them, rather he would sit where the gathering ended for him without shaking hands, and shaking hands is done when meeting in the street.

Second: That he starts with the one on the right while there is someone older than him, and this is also a mistake, because if you enter a place and there are young and old people, start with the older ones, unlike if they are sitting on your right and on your left, then start with the right one even if he is younger, and for this reason, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw two men in a dream and with him a miswak, when he wanted to hand it to them, it was said to him: The older one, the older one.
And this is a sunnah (recommended practice), people undoubtedly want it, but they have not been guided to it.

It is said: It is better for the one entering to greet generally, then sit where the gathering ended for him, and if a place has been prepared for him, he goes to his place,Meaning: Perhaps the guest is a person of status, or wealth, or knowledge, and they have prepared a special place for him, so here he goes to his place only, and does not pass by them in shaking hands.

Second: If you enter the gathering and you have tea with you and you want to give it to the people, start with the oldest.
Then the one on your right,For example: If the brother is the oldest, you give it to him first, then he gives it to me and does not give it to the second? The second one is the one on his right.
Because he has a right and a left, so when handing to the oldest, we say who is on your right? The one on his right is the one on the left of the oldest.
