Is there a basis for saying the salam before leaving the mosque after prayer? We see many of our brothers—may Allah reward them with good—saying the salam when they stand up from the row to leave the mosque, and this is out of their eagerness for good. Is there a basis for this? And does it fall under the general hadith regarding standing up from a gathering?

The questioner : The honorable Shaykh is asked: Is there a basis for saying the salam before leaving the mosque after prayer? We see many of our brothers—may Allah reward them with good—saying the salam when they stand up from the row to leave the mosque, and this is out of their eagerness for good. Is there a basis for this? And does it fall under the general hadith regarding standing up from a gathering?

The Shaykh : Yes. This falls under the general rule that a person says the salam when entering and says the salam when leaving.
As for a specific text regarding this, I do not know of a specific text in this matter. But the general rule is sufficient. If a person intends to stand up and does so, let him say the salam because he is leaving, unless doing so would cause disturbance to those who are reciting dhikr or reading, in which case he should not do it. Yes.
