Preserving the covering of the 'awrah.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Among the most important aspects of establishing the prayer is preserving the covering of the 'awrah.
For it is obligatory for a person when praying to wear his clothes, as Allah the Exalted said:
O children of Adam, take your adornment at every masjid يَا بَنِي آدَمَ خُذُوا زِينَتَكُمْ عِنْدَ كُلِّ مَسْجِدٍ
[Al-A'raf 7:31]
.
Ibn 'Abd al-Barr (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned that the scholars agreed that the prayer of one who prays naked while being able to cover his 'awrah is invalid.
The 'awrah of a man, as the jurists said, is what is between the navel and the knee, or from the navel to the knee?
The students: From the navel to the knee.

The Shaykh : Is it correct that it is between the navel and the knee?
Good, what is the difference between the two expressions?
The student: "From the navel to the knee" means that if the 'awrah extends beyond the knee, the 'awrah is exposed.
And "between the navel and the knee" means that it is permissible if the covering of the knee is exceeded.

The Shaykh : That is what is apparent.
Good, please, the one behind.
The student: "Between the navel and the knee" excludes the navel and the knee.

The Shaykh : From the 'awrah.
The student: So the navel is exposed and the knees are exposed, and the 'awrah is what is between them.

The Shaykh : And "from the navel to the knee"?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Rest.
The difference between them is: if we say "between the navel and the knee," then the navel and the knee are not part of the 'awrah.
