Why did you not mention in your book the description of the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) prayer, the ruling on placing the hands on the chest after rising from bowing, and a discussion of the evidence?

The questioner : Well, why didn’t you mention this, O Shaykh, in: The Description, that this is excerpted and this is such and such?

The Shaykh : Because the issues and objections had not been raised before.

The questioner : In the last edition?

The Shaykh : In the last printing, you mean? Well, it’s possible!

The questioner : A little of it!

The Shaykh : No, no, I spoke about some of it there, and I answered some of the doubts.

The questioner : Yes, about what is an innovation and what is not an innovation.

The Shaykh : Now they bring the hadith, and I think you brought the hadith of the one whose prayer was defective, that it is:
until every bone returns to its place حتَّى يعودَ كلُّ عظمٍ إلى مَوضِعِه
Sahih Ibn Hibban 10:161
!

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : My brother, we say—and we said this in The Description of Prayer, you are reminding me of it now—that this hadith of the one whose prayer was defective, long ago in Sham I made a list of the places where the hadith of the one whose prayer was defective is found, and what parts of the description of prayer are present in the hadith of the one whose prayer was defective. There is not a single narration in which he placed [his hands], and so when it says in the hadith:
until every bone returns حتَّى يعودَ كلُّ عظمٍ
Sahih Ibn Hibban 10:161
, what do they say? It means they return the hands as they were, but these are not mentioned in the first standing in the hadith of the one whose prayer was defective. So they burden the hadith with what it cannot bear.

The questioner : Yes.
