The Shaykh's response to Abdullah al-Sa'd regarding his statement that he does not accept the authentication or weakening of hadiths except from the early scholars

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The student : The Shaykh Abdullah al-Sa'd has opinions, one of which is that what the early scholars of hadith, such as al-Hakim and others, authenticated, one does not need to look into it. One does not need to look into it; we accept it as is, assuming that these people are more knowledgeable and more precise, and so on. So the hadiths that are originally left without a ruling from a scholar remain as they are, and Allah knows best. This is what I used to understand...

The Shaykh : Yes, this, you reminded me of this. He says something very strange. The author regarding the scholars of hadith, I think, made al-Daraqutni the last one whose words are accepted for authentication and weakening, and after that, it is finished. So it seems he follows the path of Ibn al-Salah, whom he mentioned in his book "Introduction to the Sciences of Hadith." There, he follows the path of taqlid (following a scholar without knowing his evidence) in fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence). How do the followers say that the door of ijtihad (independent legal reasoning) was closed in the fourth century? Likewise, Ibn al-Salah says that the ruling on hadiths by authentication and weakening is finished. So this Shaykh Abdullah is placing, as if he is the judge in such a matter, that up to al-Daraqutni, their authentication and weakening are accepted, but after that, no. So this statement also reminded me now that I rambled on the tape where I answered how this man can say such a thing. We know that the scholars of hadith, from al-Daraqutni and above, differ just as the jurists differ completely. And this is the Sunnah (the Prophet's way) of Allah in His creation. One man authenticates a hadith and another weakens it; one authenticates it and another weakens it. What should Shaykh Abdullah al-Sa'd do in such a disagreement? Is it not necessary for him to apply the rules of hadith science? It is necessary for him to do so. Now, we left this layer that ended with al-Daraqutni. There are hadiths in the Musnads, Fayd, and Juz' (collections) and so on, for which there is no text from the early scholars.
The student : And no ruling from a scholar.

The Shaykh : Ah, I say there is no text, meaning by authentication or weakening. This means he has nullified the Sunnah (the Prophet's way) and caused the Ummah (the Muslim community) to lose a very rich material of the hadiths of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Why? Because he does not trust the words of the later scholars. Then I saw him exaggerate in some words, and although he is, to some extent, polite, he hints, as they say, at my channel. He says that in the present age, there are those who authenticate hadiths that are unanimously agreed to be weak and weaken hadiths that are unanimously agreed to be authentic. I seek refuge in Allah from being among the ignorant. His study is not a scientific, hadithic, or principled study. So I fear that he may have bad effects on the young people of the present age.
The student : By Allah, my Shaykh, I know that... I mean, he is a student of knowledge. There was no room to speak with him about what I heard about him, because he was among his students, and yes, except that there was room for disapproval in some matters that occurred in his gathering. It was the denial of the Sunnah (the Prophet's way) that a man forgot to say to his wife, meaning the blessing of the wife, "Subhan alladhi sakhkhara lana hadha" (Glory be to Him who has subjected this to us) or something like that. So I disapproved of him by saying that the hadiths of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) should not be placed in such a form. Yes, indeed, he truly spoke the truth and pointed out to those in his gathering to stop, knowing that that person was a student of knowledge, meaning he was counted among his people.

The Shaykh: All right.
The student : Yes, this means that the Peninsula still lacks a student of hadith who follows the hadithic rules as they should. And this is the key to our speech with our brother Usama, that we are truly deprived in this matter, because there are some things and some trends that a person who has studied hadith theoretically, terminology, and so on, might say, and there is no one who devotes himself to responding to it or establishing the proof against him. Yes, but as for the students, all the people of hadith who love hadith were raised on your blessed introductions in which you placed, praise be to Allah, hadithic rules. And there is no doubt that a person is not protected from error, but what we see is that no one has not praised and been raised on those introductions, which we ask Allah to make beneficial for your deeds on the Day when neither wealth nor children will benefit. Yes, the brother had a question. What did I say? Do you remember, Shaykh?
