The Shaykh : ... And so, when some of the scholars of the Khalaf (the later generations) gathered during the time of Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) and complained to the prince who was in Damascus at that time, saying that this man contradicts the scholars, and that he ascribes a body to Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and likens Him to creation; they requested that a session be held for them with Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah. So this session took place, and Shaykh al-Islam debated those people, who are opposed to the Salaf (the earliest generations), regarding the verses and hadiths concerning the attributes. The prince listened to what these Khalaf claimed, and what Ibn Taymiyyah claimed against them from the clear verses and hadiths affirming the attributes of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in general, and affirming the attribute of rising above the Throne in particular. When that prince heard—apparently he was intelligent and reasonable—when he heard the description of those scholars of the Khalaf of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) as being neither above nor below, neither to the right nor to the left, up to the last of the misguidance we mentioned earlier; what did that reasonable prince say? "These are a people who have lost their Lord!!"
Indeed, if they do not know where Allah is, then they are a group of misguided people who have lost their Lord; for Allah (Mighty and Majestic) described Himself as[Taha 20:5], [Al-Ma'arij 70:4], [Fatir 35:10], and so on, from many verses and hadiths.
Indeed, if they do not know where Allah is, then they are a group of misguided people who have lost their Lord; for Allah (Mighty and Majestic) described Himself as
above the Throne established.
عَلَى العَرْشِ اسْتَوَىThe angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him
تَعْرُجُ المَلَائِكَةُ وَالرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِTo Him ascends good speech, and righteous work raises it
إِلَيْهِ يَصْعَدُ الكَلِمُ الطَّيِّبُ وَالعَمَلُ الصَّالِحُ يَرْفَعُهُ
