A continuation of the mention of the story of 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud with 'Uthman ibn 'Affan when he completed the prayer in Mina, and that the Sunnah is to follow the imam.

The Shaykh : In the last part of his caliphate (may Allah be pleased with him), he began to complete the prayer. When Ibn Mas'ud heard that he was praying four rak'ahs, he said: Sunan Abi Dawud 3119Sahih (Al-Albani), and he sought patience from Allah. It is a great matter for the completion of the prayer to occur from the Commander of the Faithful. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Abu Bakr, and 'Umar in the early part of his caliphate used to shorten the prayer, yet he used to pray behind them completing it, completing it. So it was said to him: "O Abu 'Abd al-Rahman, how do you complete it?" He said: .
Look at the great jurisprudence! He agreed with the imam regarding this completion even though he did not consider it correct, because he says:.
And Imam Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him), who is one of the great imams of this Ummah, did not consider the qunut in the Fajr prayer to be correct, and yet he says: "If a person follows an imam who makes qunut - who makes qunut in the Fajr prayer - let him follow him, and let him say 'Ameen' to his supplication". He did not say: "Let him leave him and say to him: You are an innovator, I will not make qunut behind you." He said: "Let him follow him and say 'Ameen' to his supplication". With our deficiency in knowledge and understanding, and our weakness in faith, are we more eager to apply the Shari'ah than these imams? No, by Allah, I acknowledge for myself that I am far below them in stages, and so every person must know his own worth, and that he is not more eager than these imams to apply the Sunnah.
So, the Sunnah is that we agree with our imams, even if they add to eleven, or thirteen, or twenty-three, or thirty-six, we follow them.
Yes, if we saw an imam doing a forbidden act, we would not follow him in that, and we would not make him an imam over us, because it is not befitting for any of the imams of the Muslims to lead them while he is in disobedience to Allah, ever. And it is not possible to allow anyone to be an imam in any kind of leadership that leads them to the sins of Allah, ever, and it is not fitting for him to be an imam. But if he leads them in a broad matter that the Salaf approved of, we cannot contradict him, ever. Rather, the Sunnah is to agree with him in that.
Is there anything related to the last ten days, or specific to the last ten days, other than these three?
Laylat al-Qadr, i'tikaf, and what else? Standing in night prayer, all of it.
We belong to Allah, and to Him we do return.
