The questioner : The honorable Shaykh says that up until the writing of this question, nothing has come regarding the use of pills to prevent the flow of menstrual blood out of dire necessity. So if a woman’s period comes during the last ten days of the month of Ramadan, and she loves that the virtue of the last ten days not be missed from her, is it permissible for her to use those pills to help her in the obedience of Allah, or what?
The Shaykh : We do not think that she should use these pills to help her in the obedience of Allah, because the menstruation that comes out is something that Allah has decreed upon the daughters of Adam. So menstruation is not from her. If it comes to her in the last ten days, let her do what Allah has decreed for her and not use these pills. It has been reported to me by doctors in whom I trust that these pills are harmful to the womb and in the blood, and they may be a cause of deforming the fetus if she has a fetus. Therefore, we see that they should be avoided, and praise be to Allah. If she gets her period and leaves off the prayer and fasting, then that is by the divine decree and destiny of Allah, and not by her action.
The Shaykh : We do not think that she should use these pills to help her in the obedience of Allah, because the menstruation that comes out is something that Allah has decreed upon the daughters of Adam.
