Who begins with the greeting of peace.
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Then, the greeting of peace is to be initiated in the following order: from the younger to the older, from the rider to the walker, and from the walker to the one sitting. This is how it came in the hadith. From the fewer to the many, if two meet three, who is required to greet? The two. If a man of thirty years meets a man of forty years, who is required to greet? The one who is thirty. If a rider meets a walker, who is required to greet? The rider. But if the one required to greet does not do so, does the other leave off the greeting? No. For this reason, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to begin the greeting to whoever he met, even if he was younger than him. You do not say, "He is the one who is supposed to greet, so I will not greet." If he does not know the Sunnah, or is negligent regarding the Sunnah, or is negligent regarding you, then you should begin the greeting to him. Because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1932Sahih (Darussalam), and do not belittle any act of kindness.
