The impermissibility of having multiple congregations in a single mosque that has a regular imam, and an explanation of the wisdom behind the impermissibility of multiple congregations

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And for this reason, fiqh was written, and especially its texts, stating that it is disliked to repeat the congregation in a mosque, with a very important condition here: in a mosque that has a regular imam and a regular mu'adhdhin. This is the text of Imam al-Shafi'i in al-Umm. Excluded from this are the mosques built on roads, such as the mosques between Makkah and al-Madinah. These are where groups of passersby come and pray in them with an imam from among them, and that is fine. As for a mosque in a neighborhood that has a regular imam and a regular mu'adhdhin who calls to them, "Hasten to prayer, hasten to success," then some of them procrastinate in their homes or at work, saying, "Brother, we will pray later." I, in the early stages of my pursuit of knowledge, was afflicted with this saying. I would hear the adhan from the mosque next to me, which was not more than fifty meters away, while I was fixing a clock—I fix clocks—and I would say, "Let me finish the clock, then I will be in a discussion with my mind: 'Perhaps by the time you finish the clock, the congregation will have ended, so we will pray a second congregation. We must find an imam.' If I did not find an imam, I would say to myself, 'You do not like yourself. You are a student of knowledge. You are praying as an imam.'" This is what I actually used to do. When I learned that this is contrary to the Sunnah, as soon as I heard the mu'adhdhin say, "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar," I would put the clock I was fixing in front of me and get up and run to the ablution area to perform wudu' and pray. By this, I mean that if the permissibility of a second and third congregation becomes established in the minds of Muslims, this leads to the weakening of the first congregation and a reduction in its number. Reality is the greatest proof. What is the difference between the congregational prayer and the Jumu'ah prayer? The Jumu'ah is established in the minds that it is not repeated, and therefore the one who wants to pray Jumu'ah hastens, as Allah the Exalted said:
So hasten to the remembrance of Allah فاسعوا إلى ذكر الله
. On the contrary, when it is established and settled in the hearts of many people that there is a second and third congregation, those who want to pray with the congregation procrastinate regarding the first congregation because of this idea present in their minds, which is contrary to the Sunnah. So the result of understanding this issue with a correct scholarly understanding is the hastening of Muslims to respond to the caller of Allah, "Hasten to prayer, hasten to success." And from the old, known, and narrated sayings in some books is: "By their fruits you will know them." You know the fruit of the issue, whether it is correct or wrong, you know its correctness from its error by its fruit. If it is said that the second congregation and those after it are permissible, the first congregation is neglected and dispersed. And if it is said that there is no congregation that gains this virtue of twenty-seven degrees except the first congregation, the Muslims set out hastening to the remembrance of Allah.
