The questioner : The questioner says: How many days is irregular non-menstrual bleeding? And what is the minimum number of days between one menstruation and the next? And if it comes in the same month, is it considered menstruation? May Allah reward you with good.
The Shaykh : Menstruation is known; it is black, thick, foul-smelling blood. And the blood of the wound, which is irregular non-menstrual bleeding, is also known; it is thin, red blood with no smell. There is no limit to the days of irregular non-menstrual bleeding; it may be twenty-five days, or twenty days, or less, or more, so it has no limit. As for the purity between two menstruations, it was said that its minimum is thirteen days, and it was said that there is no limit to its minimum, just as there is no limit to its maximum. This is the correct opinion. Based on this correct opinion, a woman may menstruate twice in a month. But the woman must know that menstrual blood is menstruation, while the other thin, slightly yellow blood is not menstruation but rather irregular non-menstrual bleeding. The woman with irregular non-menstrual bleeding acts according to her custom if she has a previous custom. She does not look at the blood; rather, when the days of her custom arrive, she sits for the duration of her custom, does not pray, does not fast, and her husband does not have intercourse with her. When her custom ends, she performs the full ritual bath, prays, fasts, and becomes lawful for her husband.
The scholars said that any blood exceeding fifteen days is irregular non-menstrual bleeding. If she has no custom and no ability to distinguish, she refers to the custom of most women, which is six days or seven days, and its time is from the first day her menstruation came.
