The Correct Method of Dealing with the Book and the Sunnah
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The point is that you should observe the detail: the principle is to follow the Book and the Sunnah for those who are able to do so, and it is assumed that the scholars are able to do this, while the general public ask the scholars. This is very clear. But if the situation is reversed so that the scholars become ignorant people who do not know the Book and the Sunnah, and they impose their opinions and statements on the people, then this is contrary to Islam. This leads to the Muslims suffering what befell the Christians, as we mentioned, due to their submission to their priests and monks. And whoever claims that a Muslim’s following of one of the schools of jurisprudence is disbelief or associating partners with Allah is a fabricator, and Allah (Mighty and Majestic) will hold him accountable on the Day of Resurrection.
As for us, our creed is that it is obligatory for all Muslims today, and especially for the scholars in the colleges of Islamic jurisprudence, to develop the teaching curricula so that a time comes when the general atmosphere in the Islamic world is the same general atmosphere that existed among the earliest generations. Among the earliest generations, there were no schools of jurisprudence or paths; there was only “Allah said” and “the Messenger of Allah said.” And the matter is as it was said:
"And all good is in following those who came before, *** And all evil is in the innovation of those who came after."
So, being content with this bad reality, with all its flaws, and especially with what we are in; being content with people remaining ignorant of the Book of Allah and the hadith of the Messenger of Allah, to the point that they do not know tawhid (the oneness of Allah), which is the head of the matter; this is not permissible in the religion of Islam in any way. Developing the curricula will, over time, lead to the Muslims returning to that pure era in which there was no Bakri, no 'Umar, no 'Uthmani, and no 'Ali, let alone a Hanafi, a Maliki, a Shafi'i, or a Hanbali. And on the day when the Muslims truly return to this scholarly life in which nothing is elevated or ruled except “Allah said” and “the Messenger of Allah said,” I believe the Islamic society and the Islamic state will be established. But as long as we continue on this error and this misguidance of moving away from the Book of Allah and the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and accusing whoever calls to the Book of Allah and the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) of declaring people disbelievers and misleading them, and the like of that; unfortunately, the Muslims will remain defeated in their affairs, ruled by those who do not follow their religion, and the Jews will dominate them while they are right next to them, and then they will not be able to do anything. This is because Allah (Mighty and Majestic) says:[Muhammad 47:7], and how can there be victory from Allah when we fight the religion of Allah, its Book and Sunnah, in the name of religion?
“If you do not know, that is a calamity *** And if you do know, the calamity is greater”
I did not want to prolong this speech, but it turned out this way, and perhaps this much is sufficient. I think the time for the 'Isha' prayer has come; let us suffice with this, unless Professor “Abu 'Ammar” has a word to say...
