From "Al-Ayn" to Dubai is a distance of one and a half hours; do we shorten the prayer in it?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : For example, from "Al-Ayn" to "Dubai" — for example — is a distance of one and a half hours?

The Shaykh : ... The answer is the same; it does not depend on the distance traveled, it depends on you. I assume for you, as I learned from Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him), that he was in our country in Damascus, so he depicted a scenario; he said: If a man left Damascus for its outskirts to hunt, and then, as he (peace be upon him) said:
he who pursues the game will be negligent ومن اتَّبعَ الصيد غفلَ
Sunan Abi Dawud 2859Sahih (Al-Albani)
, he did not find enough game to fill him, so he walked a bit more and reached a village, and so on, bit by bit, bit by bit, bit by bit, bit by bit, until he found himself having reached Aleppo, and between Aleppo and Damascus is four hundred kilometers. He said: This person is not considered a traveler; why? Because, first, he did not leave with the intention of traveling, nor did he prepare for the preparation of travel, but rather he left as a hunter to hunt and amuse himself. So, if the issue were merely covering distances, this person would be considered a traveler.

The questioner : But he...

The Shaykh : Four hundred kilometers.

The questioner : I mean, did his journey become long by gradual extension?

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : As for now — for example — from "Al-Ayn"...

The Shaykh : ... I will give you an example; do not argue with the example, meaning — no offense — if I tell you: Zayd is a lion; do not say: Zayd has no fault, and this one has a fault; because the intention is one point. What is the point in the example? Zayd is a lion means he is brave. What is the intention of the question with the previous illustration? That perhaps a person leaves his town and covers four hundred kilometers and is not considered a traveler. Do not tell me: he walked bit by bit, and this one walked with a long stride, because this is not the detail intended; the intention is that one may cover a distance while not being a traveler.
I will give you another example that may be closer. The scholars mentioned that a man has two wives, each in a town, and assume that between the town and the other town is a distance of one hundred or two hundred kilometers. So you went to your wife, and he has two wives, and you went with him as a traveler to the other town. He is a resident in the other town, and you are a traveler; why? The situation is different. He has family, he has a residence there, and you do not have that. So, as soon as he enters the second town, what is he? A resident, and you are a traveler. And the distance you covered is the same, and the town you descended into is the same, and the town you left from is the same. So the issues differ... Therefore, the clarified ruling on the matter is that travel is not restricted by a distance the Muslim covers, but rather this is related to custom.
It became nine thirty... Yes.

The questioner : Shaykh, there is a question.

The Shaykh: Go ahead.

The questioner : I do not know if...
