What is the ruling on standing for someone other than the Prophet?

The questioner : I asked him about a matter.
Al-Halabi : Who did you ask?

The questioner : Abdullah al-Sa'd. I said, he came, stood up, and greeted me. I said, what is your opinion on standing in this matter? He said, on the contrary, this is a sunnah (recommended practice).

The Shaykh : Allahu Akbar.

The questioner : I said, Glory be to Allah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade standing. He said, who said that? I said, some scholars said it is forbidden, so do not stand. He said, which scholars? I mentionedThe Shaykh : Al-Albani, and he became angry.The Shaykh : And he said, the sunnah (recommended practice) is to stand.
