Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Al-Hamid is a form of fa'il meaning maf'ul, and also meaning fa'il. So He is al-Mahmud (the Praised) and He is al-Hamid (the Praiseworthy). We have previously mentioned that al-hamd is describing with what? With perfection. Describing with perfection. So whenever you describe something with perfection, you have praised it. If you say, "So-and-so is rich," you have praised him. If you say, "So-and-so is brave," you have praised him. Every description with perfection is praise. So when you make it dual and repeat it, it becomes thana' (praise). Allah, Mighty and Majestic, is al-Hamid in the sense of al-Hamid (the Praiseworthy) because He praises those of the creation who deserve praise, just as He praised His messengers and prophets and His righteous servants. And He is al-Hamid in the sense of al-Mahmud (the Praised) because the entire universe praises Him. The whole universe praises Allah. Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Isra 17:44] No one deviates from this except the disbelievers among the children of Adam and the jinn, for these do not praise Allah. Otherwise, everything praises Allah with the tongue of state and speech. As for the disbelievers among the children of Adam and the jinn, they do not praise Allah with the tongue of speech, but they praise Him with the tongue of state, for their state testifies to Allah the Exalted with perfection. Yes.
