What is the authenticity of the hadith: “Three men, all sons of a caliph, will fight over their treasure, and none of them will succeed. Then the black banners will come from the east.”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : I have a collection of questions, most of which concern the authenticity of hadiths from the book *Uqd al-Durar fi Akhbar al-Muntadhir*. It contains a hadith narrated by Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Three men, all sons of a caliph, will fight over your treasure, and none of them will succeed. Then the black banners will come from the east, and they will kill them a killing that no people have ever inflicted. Then the caliph of Allah, the Mahdi, will appear. When you hear of him, come to him and pledge allegiance to him, for he is the caliph of Allah, the Mahdi.
Al-Hafiz Abu Nu’aym narrated it in *Sifat al-Mahdi* in this form.

The Shaykh : It is a weak hadith, published in the first volume of *Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Da’ifah*.

The questioner : In another narration, the name of one of these three is mentioned, Abdullah. Are they all sons of a caliph as well? Is the ruling the same?

The Shaykh : The ruling is the same.
