Explaining how to raise the hands in prayer, and clarifying that the raising occurs in only four places.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : We return to the description of the prayer. In the prayer, the hands are raised to the shoulders, like this, or to the earlobes, or to the tips of the ears. All of this has been reported. The raising occurs in only four places: at the takbir of ihram, at the ruku', when rising from it, and when standing up from the first tashahhud. There is no raising in any other place. The hadiths that state he raises his hands at every takbir are subject to scrutiny. Ibn al-Qayyim said that they contain an error or a reversal in the narrator, and that the narrator intended to say that he says takbir every time he lowers and raises, but said instead that he raises his hands every time he lowers and raises. Therefore, the stronger position is that there is no raising of the hands in the prayer except in these four places, which are:
The student: The takbir of ihram.

The Shaykh : Yes
The student: And the ruku'.

The Shaykh : Yes
The student: And rising from the ruku'.

The Shaykh : Yes
The student: And rising when standing up from the first tashahhud.

The Shaykh : Yes, yes, you have done well. Rest now.
