The questioner : May Allah reward you with good. He says:The questioner : Some of those who deny the exaltation of Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) have resorted to a figurative interpretation of the hadith of the slave girl, "Where is Allah?" They claim that he asked "where" regarding place and status, and that the slave girl was a non-Arab, so she pointed to the sky. How do we respond to this?
The Shaykh : Did the Messenger point to the sky in the hadith of the slave girl? He said:Sunan Abi Dawud 3282Sahih (Al-Albani) It is she who said, "In the sky." And is it possible that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) would approve of falsehood? It is not possible. Then, glory be to Allah, have these people not read the Book of Allah? [Al-Mulk 67:16-17] The matter is clear. But if we say that Allah is in the sky, do you think that the meaning of His being in the sky is like our being on the roof, meaning that we need the roof to be under us so that we are established? No, rather He is above the sky, and He does not need the sky; rather, the sky and all creation need Him (Exalted and Majestic is He). Therefore, it does not follow from that that the sky carries Him or bears Him. Indeed, Allah said, when He mentioned the Day of Resurrection: [Al-Haqqah 69:17] And He did not say, "Your Lord is carried," because the Lord (Mighty and Majestic) is not carried. The Lord is self-sufficient in everything, and everything is in need of Allah. Do not think that when He (Mighty and Majestic) says: [Ali 'Imran 3:83] that the sky carries Him forever. But the sky and all creation are beneath Him (Blessed and Exalted is He). He is the Subduer above His servants, and He is the Most High, the Supreme. And the wonder is that these people, and I seek refuge in Allah, when they call upon Allah, where do they raise their hands? Answer, everyone.
The student: To the sky
The Shaykh : To the sky. They themselves call upon Allah the Exalted in the mosques and in the great sacred sites in Mecca, and they raise their hands to whom? To Allah (Mighty and Majestic). So glory be to Allah that they lie to their innate disposition with their own actions. "One of the scholars stood up and affirmed that Allah the Exalted was, and there was nothing before Him, and there was nothing with Him. He wanted to deny the rising of Allah above the Throne. So one of the attendees said to him, 'O so-and-so, leave this alone. Tell us about this innate disposition. Has anyone ever said, 'O Allah,' except when he finds in his heart a necessity for what? For seeking the High. So this man who affirms things for the people struck his head and said, 'Confuse me, confuse me, confuse me.'" Why? Because he addressed him with the innate disposition, and this can never be denied. After the adhan, if Allah wills.
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad. O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and the established prayer, grant Muhammad the intercession and the virtue, and raise him to the praised station that You have promised him. Indeed, You do not break Your promise. Go.
The questioner : In the name of Allah. We ask, O Shaykh?
The Shaykh : Yes, ask.
The questioner : In the name of Allah, and all praise is due to Allah.
The Shaykh : Did the Messenger point to the sky in the hadith of the slave girl? He said:
Where is Allah ? She replied: In the heaven.
أين الله ؟ قالت : في السماء(16) Do you feel secure that He who [holds authority] in the heaven would not cause the earth to swallow you and suddenly it would sway? (17) Or do you feel secure that He who [holds authority] in the heaven would not send against you a storm of stones? Then you would know how [severe] was My warning.
أأمنتم من في السماء أن يخسف بكم الأرض فإذا هي تمور أم أمنتم من في السماء أن يرسل حاصباً فسيتعلمون كيف نذيرAnd there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them].
