Explanation of the Book of Ablution, Ghusl, Menstruation, and Tayammum-02a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Ya'qub ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, saying: Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, saying: Yahya informed us from Muhammad ibn Yahya ibn Huban, that his uncle Wasa' ibn Huban informed him, that 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar informed him, saying:
one day I climbed up onto the roof of our house, and I saw the Messenger of Allah sitting on two bricks (to relieve himself), facing the direction of Baitul-Maqdis (Jerusalem). لقد ظهرت ذات يوم على ظهر بيتنا فرأيت رسول الله صلّى الله عليه وسلم قاعدا على لبنتين مستقبل بيت المقدس
Sunan Ibn Majah 322Sahih (Darussalam)
.

The Shaykh : All these hadiths have the same source and the same meaning, and the incident in them is the same. The variation in their wording indicates what the majority of hadith scholars held, which is the permissibility of narrating a hadith by its meaning. However, some of the narrators are careful and strive to narrate by the exact wording. For this reason, you will find that he sometimes says "or so" or "or such," using the particle "or" which indicates doubt, showing that the meaning is the same. Likewise, all the narrators strive to preserve the wording of the dhikr (remembrance of Allah) and supplications. For this reason, you will find that the variation in them is not much, unlike the hadiths of rulings, in which they do not preserve the wording with the same care as they do the wording of the dhikr and supplications.
