They sold what perishes of cheap pottery for what endures of pure gold; they raised for them in the journey the banners of happiness and guidance, O the humiliation of the bewildered.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"They sold what perishes of cheap pottery for what endures of pure gold"
Al-'Aqyan is gold, so they sold the lower, which is pottery, for the higher, which is gold.
"They raised for them in the journey the banners of happiness and guidance, O the humiliation of the bewildered"
This means that they were guided by them when the banners were raised for them, the banners of happiness and guidance; they were guided by them, and the bewildered remained in humiliation.
"So the peoples raced and competed for it, like the racing of knights on the day of a wager"
The knights on the day of the wager means racing on a horse for a reward, which is called a wager, and it is permissible by the Shari'ah.
