Explanation of the Book of Friday and the Two Festivals-01a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Ali ibn Abdullah ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Harimi ibn Ammar narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us from Abu Bakr ibn al-Munkadir, Amr ibn Sulaym al-Ansari narrated to me, saying: I bear witness to Abu Sa'id, who said: I bear witness to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:
The taking of a bath on Friday is compulsory for every male Muslim who has attained the age of puberty and (also) the cleaning of his teeth with Siwak, and the using of perfume if it is available. الغسل يوم الجمعة واجب على كل محتلم وأن يستن وأن يمس طيباً إن وجد
Sahih al-Bukhari 880
.
Amr said: "As for the ritual bath, I bear witness that it is obligatory, but as for using the toothpick and perfume, Allah knows best whether it is obligatory or not? But this is how it is in the hadith".
Abu Abdullah said: "He is the brother of Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir, and Abu Bakr did not name him this; Bakir ibn al-Ashaj and Sa'id ibn Abi Hilaal and others narrated it from him, and Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir was known by the kunyas Abu Bakr and Abu Abdullah".

The Shaykh : This hadith has come before us, the hadith of Abu Sa'id that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The taking of a bath on Friday is compulsory for every male Muslim who has attained the age of puberty and (also) the cleaning of his teeth with Siwak, and the using of perfume if it is available. غسل الجمعة واجب على كل محتلم، وأن يستن، وأن يمس طيبا إن وجد
Sahih al-Bukhari 880
And that one should use the toothpick أن يستن
meaning that one should use the toothpick, and it appears that this use of the toothpick is more than the customary use prescribed for every prayer.
He said:
the using of perfume if it is available وأن يمس طيبا إن وجد
Sahih al-Bukhari 880
And his saying:
If one finds it إن وجد
it is known that if one does not find it, one will not apply it, but it contains an encouragement to find it, and for a person to prepare for perfume on Friday.
Amr said, and he is Amr ibn Sulaym: "As for the ritual bath, I bear witness that it is obligatory, but as for using the toothpick and perfume, Allah knows best whether it is obligatory or not? But this is how it is in the hadith". This does not harm the fact that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) combined them in one hadith, because he may combine things in one context and they differ, as in the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And [He created] the horses, mules and donkeys for you to ride and [as] adornment. And He creates that which you do not know. والخيل والبغال والحمير لتركبوها وزينة ويخلق ما لا تعلمون
[An-Nahl 16:8]
Here, horses are coupled with mules and donkeys, although they are lawful, while mules and donkeys are forbidden. So here it can be said that the Friday ritual bath is obligatory because there are independent hadiths in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded the ritual bath, as in the previous hadith of 'Umar and others, so that becomes an indication that the Friday ritual bath is obligatory, while using the toothpick and perfume is a recommended practice.
Read what Abu Abdullah said, look at the explanation and what it says. The first or the second opening.
