Reconciling the statement of Allah the Exalted: “And upon them was placed humiliation and poverty” with His statement in Surat al-Imran
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
If someone says, "The reality is different from this now, yes?" we say, "It is not possible for reality to contradict the words of Allah and His Messenger; rather, the error lies in understanding and perception. Otherwise, the words of Allah do not...; the reports cannot differ. The news of Allah and His Messenger is that we say this is an absolute verse, and in His saying, Exalted is He, in Surat al-Imran: [Ali 'Imran 3:112] this verse is restricted and becomes [Al-Baqarah 2:61] except by a rope from Allah and a rope from the people. If Allah the Exalted connects them, or if the people connect them, then the humiliation is removed from them, and they will have courage and strength. Did you understand?"
What is the rope from Allah? It was said: It is Islam. And the rope from the people is that people other than the Jews support them with what they support them with. The Jews who exist now are supported by a rope from the people, and they are the Christians. The Christians support them everywhere, because Allah says:[Al-Ma'idah 5:51] This is a report from Allah that does not fail. The Christians support them from all corners of the world, whether openly or secretly, directly or indirectly. As for the rope from Allah, we said it is Islam, as mentioned by many scholars. However, in my view, it is broader than Islam, because if they become Muslims, the description of Judaism is removed from them and they become Muslims. But in my view, the rope from Allah is that Allah may empower them over others as a punishment for them, or they may be empowered over others and have dominance as a punishment for the others, so that they may return to Allah the Mighty and Majestic, especially if they are from the Ummah of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and they disobeyed and strayed from this religion. Then Allah empowers over them whom He wills from His creation, so that they may return. And this matter is the reality. If we look at those who made themselves supporters of these Jews, and they are the Arabs, we will find that most of them are misguided, and especially their leaders are deviating from the truth. In fact, the matter may reach absolute disbelief in some of them, refuge with Allah. Therefore, Allah empowers these [Jews] over them, and what happens happens. And if you see that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) at Hunayn, the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) were defeated due to self-admiration, and they were defeated at Uhud due to disobedience, and you apply this to those who are in the same state now, you will find that both descriptions exist in those who made their chests for the Jews: self-admiration and disobedience to the command. Yes? Until one of the people told me, when he heard about the Six-Day War, he said: “I started to cry. An Arab announcer was boasting, saying: ‘We will do, we will do, and the Jews in two days will pack their bags in the sea, and tomorrow Umm Kulthum will sing in Tel Aviv.’” Yes? Look at the color of the reward for blessings: gratitude for blessings, disobedience to the Bestower—refuge with Allah. This boasting, this arrogance, this elevation, this self-admiration did not happen to the Companients with the best of creation. Not half, not a quarter, not anything comparable. But they said: “We will not be overcome today by fewness,” and what happened happened. Likewise, the disobedience that happened at Uhud was also a simple disobedience, and they also left their position by interpretation, or not? They said: “It is over now, the defeat has happened to the polytheists, and the Muslims have won, and all that remains is for us to go and collect the spoils.” And the matter became that horsemen came to them from behind, and what happened happened by the decree and destiny and wisdom of Allah. One disobedience—how is it with these many sins now? One sees some of the leaders of those who made their chests for the Jews seeing that ruling by the Shari'ah of Allah is backward and regressive—refuge with Allah. How do they want to support these [Jews] against the Jews? So the important thing is to say: I see that the statement of Allah the Exalted: [Ali 'Imran 3:112] is not Islam, because Islam in reality removes them from Judaism and makes them the best of nations. But what is meant by it is a rope from Allah, a cause that becomes a victory for them, empowering them over whom He wills of His servants. Otherwise, Allah says to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), addressing the believers, not addressing the one who said “I am a Muslim”: [Al-Hashr 59:14] Now they fight us from above our heads and on our walls, are we not so? This is the reality, because the address in His statement: is for those who possess the qualities of the Salaf al-Salih. Until now, the truth, unfortunately, is that we do not fight them with Islam. What do we fight them with? With Arabness and nationalism. Yes? They fight with a religion, but it is false, because they say: “This is holy land, the land of the prophets, we want to reclaim it from these Arab usurpers,” in their claim. This is a difference between this and that, and although their religion is false and is nothing, they come with a religious attribute. But we left the religious attribute and went to an attribute by which we never support. We do not support the Arabs because they are Arabs, but because they are believers. [Ar-Rum 30:47] We do not support the Arabs, we support the believers. And it is strange that some people say: “Yes, it was right to support the believers, but the believers in your cause? What are the believers in the religion? The believers in the cause?” They did not know that the believers in the cause... They did not know yet that the Kremlin, the White House, and the palace of Britain in London, all of them are believers in their causes. Is it right for Allah to support them? No, and Glorified and Exalted is He. But the support of the believers is by Him, Blessed and Exalted is He, and by His Messengers and His Books, and those who apply His Shari'ah. This is what Allah obligated upon Himself to support them. [Ar-Rum 30:47]
If so, the confusion is removed regarding His statement:[Al-Baqarah 2:61] Why do we see them now in this state, and the verse is a report from Allah, and the report of Allah is truth and veracity, it cannot fail?
So the answer? That this verse is restricted by His statement:[Ali 'Imran 3:112] And the restriction in Surat al-Imran is a restriction on humiliation only, but poverty is not restricted. Therefore, poverty is placed upon them wherever they are, and they cannot spend a qirsh except while hoping to get a dirham. Always, if the Jewish associations spend all their donations, it is for a purpose they see will return to them with more than what they spent, otherwise they would not spend anything. So poverty is absolute, and humiliation is restricted except by a rope from Allah and a rope from the people. Yes.
They have been put under humiliation [by Allah] wherever they are overtaken, except for a covenant from Allah and a rope from the Muslims
ضربت عليهم الذلة أين ما ثقفوا إلا بحبل من الله وحبل من الناسthey were covered with humiliation and poverty
ضربت عليهم الذلة والمسكنةWhat is the rope from Allah? It was said: It is Islam. And the rope from the people is that people other than the Jews support them with what they support them with. The Jews who exist now are supported by a rope from the people, and they are the Christians. The Christians support them everywhere, because Allah says:
O you who have believed, do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies. They are [in fact] allies of one another
يا أيها الذين آمنوا لا تتخذوا اليهود والنصارى أولياء بعضهم أولياء بعضexcept for a covenant from Allah
إلا بحبل من اللهThey will not fight you all except within fortified cities or from behind walls
لا يقاتلونكم جميعا إلا في قرى محصنة أو من وراء جدرThey will not fight you
لا يقاتلونكمand incumbent upon Us was support of the believers.
وكان حقا علينا نصر المؤمنينand incumbent upon Us was support of the believers.
وكان حقا علينا نصر المؤمنينIf so, the confusion is removed regarding His statement:
And they were covered with humiliation and poverty
وضربت عليهم الذلة والمسكنةSo the answer? That this verse is restricted by His statement:
