The Book of Mosques and Places of Prayer-09a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: And Mansur ibn Abi Mazahim narrated to us, saying: 'Abd Allah ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us from Abu Bakr ibn 'Uthman ibn Sa'ad ibn Hanif, who said: I heard Abu 'Umaymah ibn Sa'ad saying:
We prayed the Zuhr prayer with `Umar bin `Abdul `Aziz and then went to Anas bin Malik and found him offering the `Asr prayer. I asked him, "O uncle! Which prayer have you offered?" He said 'The `Asr and this is (the time of) the prayer of Allah s Apostle which we used to pray with him." صلينا مع عمر بن عبد العزيز الظهر ثم خرجنا حتى دخلنا على أنس بن مالك فوجدناه يصلي العصر فقلت يا عم ما هذه الصلاة التي صليت؟ قال العصر وهذه صلاة رسول الله صلى الله عليه تعالى عليه وسلم التي كنا نصلي معه
Sahih al-Bukhari 549
.

The Shaykh : Glory be to Allah, the matter reached the point where this righteous caliph (may Allah have mercy on him) delayed the prayer because the people had become accustomed to delaying it during the time of the Umayyads; they had become accustomed to delaying the prayers. The apparent meaning of this hadith and the one before it is that they delay it until close to the time of the afternoon prayer, because Anas ibn Malik is praying the afternoon prayer at the moment these people are leaving the midday prayer. And this is the meaning of what came in the hadith:
They delay it from its time. يميتونها عن وقتها
Yes, indeed.
